Rooted in Culture.
Designed with Purpose.
Rooted in his Native Hawaiian heritage and upbringing in Hawaiian language and culture, Grant Igawa founded Kumu Collective as a reflection of purposeful creativity and shared knowledge. “Kumu,” meaning “source,” “foundation,” or “teacher,” represents a thoughtfully curated collective of resources and experiences that transforms creative vision into meaningful, hands-on execution.
The identity of Kumu Collective is further reflected in the Native Hawaiian word Kumulāʻau (koo-moo-lah-au), meaning “tree.” In this symbolism, Kumu represents the strong foundational base, while Lāʻau represents the branches that grow and flourish from that strength. The logo embodies this philosophy through a refined visual mark: the “K” symbolizes an interconnected root system, representing the many creative disciplines unified within a one-stop creative agency, while the “C” reflects the crown of the tree — expansive, radiant, and illuminated like brilliant rays of sunlight.
